Why does my white gold jewellery have a yellow hue?
White gold naturally has a yellow hue; white gold is in fact created by alloying yellow gold with metals such as palladium and platinum to brighten the colour.
-
What should I do if my white gold jewellery has started yellowing?
This is nothing to be concerned about and is a natural characteristic of white gold - yellow gold is alloyed with metals such as palladium and platinum to brighten the colour, the bright white sheen is then achieved by rhodium coating the ring, which is part of the platinum family. This can be reapplied to bring it back to its bright white colour again.
We offer a rhodium plating service for £47 (or free of charge regardless of the timeframe for the first re-coating of Beaverbrooks 9ct and 18ct white gold rings), simply visit us in-store or call our Customer Service & Sales Team on 0800 169 2329.
-
How long does rhodium coating last?
The longevity of rhodium is completely individual to each person and will last differently. This can depend on (but is not limited to) factors such as what the ring comes into contact with or even skin acidity.

How long does plating last?
There is no definitive timeframe when it comes to plating wearing down. Longevity can vastly depend on what your product is coming into contact with and we would recommend keeping it away from liquids, especially abrasive substances such as perfume, lotions, household cleaning products and hairspray.

Can I swim or shower in my jewellery?
We would advise all jewellery is removed prior to swimming, showering or bathing to ensure it stays beautiful for as long as possible. Especially plated items and gemstones, which can become dull and fade.
-
Can I sleep in my jewellery?
We would always advise to remove both your watch and jewellery before sleeping. This will prevent accidental damage to both yourself and your precious items, such as necklaces getting tangled, your watch becoming scratched or jewellery settings getting caught on threads.
